The East Gippsland Road trip that you’ve been waiting for … Ever since the Black Summer bushfires you’ve wanted to support the local community in its recovery, and of course connect with the region’s stunning natural and cultural landscapes. Hilltop hot springs bathing at sunset and sunrise, and connecting with locals through the day. Why haven’t we already left yet?!

 
 
 

 Sample Itinerary

Below is an example of a self-guided 3 day trip to the Gippsland region.

 
  • 1 - Journey towards the rising sun and join the Bataluk Cultural Trail at Sale.
    2 - Deepen your awareness of local Gunaikurnai culture at the Krowathunkooloong Keeping Place in Bairnsdale.
    3 - Continue East, noting the Bairnsdale to Orbost Rail Trail as you go.
    4 - The Bataluk Cultural Trail eventually brings you to Legend Rock at Metung, an important cultural landmark for local First Peoples.
    5 - After getting to know the village (including the Metung Community Garden), it’s time to arrive at Metung Hot Springs.
    6 - Settle into your Glamping accommodation and then head up to the Hilltop pools for sunset.

  • 7 - Start your day with sunrise bathing at the Hilltop.
    8 - Ride your bikes into town for a group fitness class on the Metung Village Green and a morning coffee.
    9 - Return to read a favourite book on the deck of your Glamping tent, overlooking the Metung Hot Springs’ freshwater lagoon.
    10 - The option of a round of golf in the afternoon, and meeting the locals.
    11 - Back to the hot springs for an evening soak, settling into the evening with a glass of local Pinot Noir or a craft beer from Sailors Grave.

  • 12 - One last soak in the hot pools.
    13 - Continue your road trip, with The Phoenix Trail connecting you with local artisans and creative responses to the Black Summer bushfires of 2019.
    14 - The Bairnsdale to Orbost Rail Trail.
